Feature Definition as defined by the Feature Definition CoP includes those product management methods concerned with the feature definition process.


This set of feature definition methods is divided into three main categories.

1. Those Feature Definition methods classified as "Conceptualization" are methods supporting definition activities that conceive new problem definitions.
2. Those Feature Definition methods classified as "Refinement" are methods supporting definition activities that derive new feature definitions through refining existing ones.
3. Those Feature Definition methods classified as "Analysis" are methods supporting definition activities that produce new feature definitions from analyzing old definitions and data.
   

This community is part of a system of communities, together these communities act as a system-of-systems designed to be the innovation value chain for social innovation.

The mission of these communities is to: 

• Improve the practices within their focus area
• Help participants submit documented processes to the IPM Alliance for APM certification
• Mentor and provide role models to the community's participants
• Collect and distribute shared resources and information
• Apply methods towards social innovation
