Greetings to the community! No, I have not forgotten about you, don't forget, I am a Product Manager too and have a gazillion things on the list of to-do's, with room for maybe 5 or 6:)
Have been receiving more and more requests for help finding PM's lately. A wonderful trend for our industry, we are all growing! The more and more I read through the "job descriptions" the harder and longer I seem to giggle. Apparently, we have mastered the usage of big words like; Strategy, Analysis, Consensus, Innovation, Execution, Empowered and many more.
Unfortunately, when we actually talk to PM's, we find the day-day duties are far from our original job descriptions. Is it a ploy to get us to take the job by making it sound more interesting? Do our managers forget our first day what we were originally hired to do? I believe we have the right intentions, but tend to just not be realistic enough.
On the other hand, would you interview for a job that called for a product-babysitter? Demo-dummy? Customer/Sales Punching bag? :)
I guess my boss was right afterall, we are all salesmen on one day or another (I know, I know, my stomach is turning at the thought too).
