It isn't a killer app until the entire software market say its one. You might be aiming at building a hit. Still, both of those things involve processes well beyond development.
I don't belive that cool has anything to do with it. Nor does identifying a problem have anything to do with what becomes a killer app. Everyone identifies a problem.
You should identify a paying client who will enable you to productize your technology within the context of their product visualization. Even so, you will be years away from a killer app.
Price is a dynamic and emergent thing. You cannot design a price into a product, because the pricing strategy will change, and pricing pressures will push your pricing down, or drive your company into an ever smaller and unsustainable market. Price happens.
Without going in too much depth for what was supposed to a fun poke at how simple the theory is to build a winner... I understand that the market determines what is a "killer app" but the impact is measured by the problem it addresses, for whom and the viability of the solution is determined by the technology chosen. Technically I can solve anything in VB but the chances of success are reduced.
Nice! So perfect!
There needs to be a third circle for price, perfect other than that!
And a fourth circle, the USP.
